Guarding the precious one

Posted by
Devi (Chennai, India) on 5 May 2020 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

The pigeon guarding her egg. But it was pushed off in a a couple of days along with the nest . May be she realised that it was an unfertilized egg!

Jypyä Pop from Turku, Finland

We have a mild problem with pigeons trying to nest in the cats built for the cars and carrying twigs as nest material there. Risus do not stay on top of structures and birdcatchers do unnecessary work. We wouldn't want them there because they pollute places and there would be a forest nearby, which would be good nesting places. Oiva liked the crowned pigeons and waited for them to return from their migration.

@Jypyä Pop: That sad Jypya. But pigeons rarely buid nests on trees ! I remeber Oiva's one image so well...of the pigeons ...seated on a tree and loys of bare branches!!!

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

I love the alternating colors in the pigeon's wing plumage. A tragic end to this mother who tried hard to bring life into this world.

5 May 2020 12:23pm

@Steven: It happents quite often Steven ! At time I wonder if the pigeon mourns, as I find the malae bringing twigs again and then both of them building the nest!!

beach from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada

Maybe she did realize that. Or maybe it was a rival who pushed it out.

oh my, pigeon season again - is it the same one from last year or do different birds find the nesting spot each year?

6 May 2020 12:31am
