Scripture Classes....8

Posted by
Devi (Chennai, India) on 13 February 2020 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

This is called a Homa Kund. Twigs from some specific trees ( with medicinal properties) are selected and fire built over cowdung cakes. Offerings are made to the Fire that springs from here ( live coals are placed to assist the flames ) .Prayers are offered. The Lord Ganesha is invoked every morning so that the classes and other activities go off unhindered. Made just by arranging bricks on the floor. There are bricks at the bottom too, so that the ash will not leave a stain on the floor.
The fire had gone out here as the time was past ten in the morning when we went there.

Thanks for the explanation.

@Dreams come true: Thank you Dreams. The Black Mark, worn on the forehead by the Teacher and students in the previous images are actually from a paste made by mixing a little bit of this black ash from this fire with ghee( clarified butter ) fom Cow's milk.

Harry from Apex, NC, United States

so many religions have intricate rituals whose origins are lost in history

14 Feb 2020 12:25am

@Harry: You are right Harry. And very sad, that the present generation ..may of our youngsters - scorn at these without understanding the Science behind this ! Well..the world is changing !

Elaine Hancock from Olney, United States

This is such a nice morning ritual. I really like it. A great series.

14 Feb 2020 1:55am

@Elaine Hancock: Thank you very much Elaine. It is said that in the Homes where this ritual is being followed every morning the atmosphere is one of complete sanitation. In a big City in the middle of India, there was gas leak from a Cell Factory some years back and the consequences were terrible. Many lost lives and many developed chronic diseases..but the homes, where this was practiced every morning, remained pictures of health, it is said !
