This dish is made with bittergourd...
This vegetable is good for diabetic people...whose blood sugar levels are high.The botanical name is Momordica Charantia

@Ralf Kesper: It is..we add a little sugar too to the dish ( sugar in its raw form known as Jaggery or brown sugar ) which mitigates the bitter taste..and the dish is made tastier adding fried sugar gratings.
