A Wedding 11

Posted by
Devi (Chennai, India) on 22 December 2017 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

These are small clay cups in which lentils ( nine types) are soaked and sprouted. The elders in the family ( ladies) sprinkle a little water in these as the Priest chants . Now, in olden days, these were let to float on the rivers. They used to settle here and there on the banks and sprout and become plants and grow well....symbolising fertility and prosperity in the lives of the newly married ! Now in the cities , these are emptied on the soil near a tree in the compound where the home stands!
