Installation of Flag Post 8

Posted by
Devi (Chennai, India) on 23 May 2017 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

Just before lowering the Copper sheet and the Post, the Nine Gems
( Diamonds, Pearls, Corals, Yellow Sapphire, Blue Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby, Hessonite and Cat's Eye are dropped inside, placed on the Betel Leaf( the leaf is used in all our rituals, as we consider it holy and has many medical properties). I know, the gems are not gleaming !!! Poor shot with the sun coming down on the leaf !!

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

Interesting. I hadn't thought about betel leaves since my days in Vietnam where lots of rural folks chewed the leaves and had their teeth blackened by the practice.

23 May 2017 6:24pm

@Steve Rice: That's nice Steve. So you know about betel leaves. When a woman gives birth to a baby here. she is suposed to eat at east twenty of these...for a few weeks after lunch. These leaves are rich in calcium and have medicinal properties. But many get addicted to it and have their teeth coloured!!!
