The Metal idol of Lord Murugan..made with an alloy of five metals..
in a Temple near Mayavaram, South India.
A lovely sculpture in a carefully crafted costume. Beautiful work and an excellent photo.

@Steve Rice: Thank you Steve...
The day we visited was a special day for the Lord..and the power supply was off for some reason and there were only oil lamps and may be that worked well for the image;)
Nice. Was this shot at Mayuranathar temple?

@Ram: Thank you for dropping by Ram :)
No this is not Mayuranathar Temple which is in proper Mayavaram. We stayed in Mayavaram and visited quite a few Temples in and around Mayavaram and this Temple is the ValampuRanathar ThiruvalampuRam ( MelapperunpaLLam)..6 kms. from Poompuhaar. There was power cut and only oil lamps were burning...it was Sashti and this Utsava moorthy was decked beautifully...
A very youthful looking lord :-)

@Dimitrios: :))))))))))))))))) Dimitrios
Wonderful image! The less available light has added beauty to the photo!
Pls. remember, so many temples have restrictions on direct snaps on the shrine!
14 Mar 2014 2:02pm
@mohkum: This was the Utsava Moorthy in the mandapam and the priest benevolently allowed me to take a shot...Many Temples don't allow us even to take snaps of the mandapa pillars. Ah...may be Subramanya Swamy made the priest speak thus:)
Beautiful colours and craftsmanship in this statue Devi! Nicely captured! ;-)

For me, visit to Temples is like breathing..Have been travelling for the past 14 years vigorously...three to four days a month visiting rare temples..I document them and take photographs and post blogs on them in another site...like a hand guide for people who wish to visit these.
