Our Lord Ganesha..

Posted by
Devi (Chennai, India) on 7 September 2013 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

On Monday the 9th, we celebrate the Ganesha Chathurthi festival. The markets are flooded with clay idols of Ganesha and it is a big festival for us. As per our family tradition, we have never bought the idol from the market. My grandmother used to take clay from the garden and make her own idol-- with all of us grand children seated around her and watching with awe as the idol shaped up!! My Mom continued the tradition and after my marriage I have been making the idol every year at home. Just sat for five hours yesterday and made this out of clay. I have run short of the particular red seeds (with black spots which are called KundhumaNi here ) and had to use black pepper for the eyes. This would dry before Monday and I'd clothe Him and put a few flowers and do my pooja. Later , He will be immersed in the sea or well or river:)
